American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Inspire 2022 Annual Conference & Expo

We presented our abstract during a poster session at the AOTA conference. Our abstract focused on the relationship between school environment and engagement with the occupations of play, sleep, and leisure in children during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were able to interact with a variety of individuals at the conference and further discuss our research. We had a great time presenting and meeting other researchers!

Marquette University’s Forward-Thinking Research Symposium

We submitted a Poster to Marquette’s Forward-Thinking Research Symposium for our In-Home Motor App study. This symposium focuses on future research studies that will take place in the next 6-12 months. We presented the motor assessment app that will allow for less transportation and scheduling conflicts for research participants and be useful for virtually collecting data during the COVID-19 pandemic.

American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) Conference

We submitted an ePoster abstract to AACPDM annual conference for our In-Home Motor App study. Our virtual presentation highlighted the current technology innovations that we are developing to assess child motor function using an app at home instead of requiring the participant to come into the lab.

Collecting Data for our Bilateral Coordination Pedaling Study

We have started collecting data for our study that compares brain activation patterns of children with hemiparetic cerebral palsy with typically developing children. We will look at the differences between the lesioned hemisphere and non-lesioned hemisphere when the child completes a hand-pedaling task.

Summer in the Lab!

We have been busy preparing two separate studies in the lab. Thanks to summer undergraduate students Dominique Linkins and Lilli Schober for their work on these projects.

Dominique is in the early stages of a Cerebral Palsy Bilateral Coordination study. This study aims to determine if atypical brain activity is associated with impaired bilateral coordination in children with hemiparetic cerebral palsy. Dominique is currently performing test trials in preparation to start recruitment.

Lilli is also in the early stages of her project which aims to test the feasibility and reliability of assessing motor function in adolescence remotely via an in-home motor app. As we wait for the app to be finalized Lilli is preparing flyers and documents for the recruitment phase of the project.
